YearCompass

It can be daunting to think about the past year know how to process all that happened. It can also be a huge task to consider the year ahead and what our goals, dreams, and hopes are for the months to come. We recently heard of this website that gives you a booklet as a guide through your processing. Originally created by a group of friends in Hungary in 2012, this booklet is now translated in 22 languages and available to download for free - to be used either on your computer or printed out and used with a pen. The booklet gives you space to consider the aspects of your year that were the best, the worst, people you need to forgive, and areas where you saw grace boldly. There is space to dream of the year ahead and make concrete goals for what you want to happen. Download one for yourself today, then get yourself on their mailing list (they only send ONE email a year) so you don't miss the one for 2019. (It's never too early, right?)  C

Topknot Twirl

The Christmas season is over, but if you're like me, you're always on the lookout for a good gift to give to the little people in your life. I met Lauren long ago and have followed her story as she and her family lived in Asia and are now back in the States. Lauren is incredibly creative and talented and she makes and sells handmade dolls, which she first made for her own daughters. Her Etsy site explains the options you have to customize a doll: skin color, hair style and color, and clothing pattern. She also makes boy dolls! I love the simplicity and the love that goes into each doll. If you're buying two or more, use the code SIBLINGLOVE to get 10% off the total price. C

Homemade French Fries

I have an addiction; it's to French fries. I once heard the best diet plan yet - eat whatever you want, as long as you made it entirely from scratch. It sure would limit the amount of cookies or ice cream one would eat if you had to make it all on your own! I felt daunted by the prospect of making french fries from scratch, but once I did it, I've never turned back. Preheat your oven to 450F and coat a baking tray with cooking spray. Cut up potatoes into strips (I go lengthwise first, right down the middle, and continue from there), fill the baking tray (with one layer of the fries), coat with olive oil, salt, and pepper and mix. Then bake until crispy! (Usually 30-40 minutes, with a quick broil at the end to add to the crisp.)  C

The quality of life is in proportion, always, to the capacity for delight. The capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention.
